WELCOME TO THE NORTHAMPTON CLINIC
Hypnotherapy
Most people are trying to change consciously, while being controlled subconsciously. That’s why insight alone often isn’t enough. Hypnotherapy works beneath the surface, where habits, fears, emotional reactions, and identity patterns are actually being driven from.

Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that works with the subconscious mind, the nervous system, imagination, attention, memory, and learned behavioural patterns in order to support emotional, psychological, and behavioural change.
Contrary to popular misconceptions, hypnotherapy isn’t mind control, unconsciousness, or being “put under.”
Most people remain aware during the process and are able to hear, think, reflect, and respond throughout. It’s better understood as a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility, where the critical, analytical part of the mind becomes quieter, allowing deeper patterns, beliefs, memories, emotions, and associations to become more accessible.
The subconscious mind stores repeated experiences, emotional conditioning, habits, fears, attachment patterns, automatic responses, and learned associations. Over time, these patterns can begin operating automatically beneath conscious awareness.
Hypnotherapy aims to help interrupt unhelpful subconscious programming and introduce new emotional, cognitive, behavioural, and physiological responses.
Broadly, hypnotherapy may help with:
- Anxiety and chronic stress.
- Trauma related responses and emotional overwhelm.
- Phobias and fears.
- Confidence and self esteem.
- Habit change and compulsive behaviours.
- Sleep difficulties.
- Emotional regulation.
- Pain management.
- Performance anxiety.
- Negative self talk and limiting beliefs.
- Nervous system dysregulation.
- Behavioural repetition patterns.
- Emotional processing and subconscious conditioning.
A hypnotherapy session often involves:
- Guided relaxation and nervous system regulation.
- Focused attention and inward awareness.
- Visualisation and imagination based exercises.
- Accessing emotional associations and subconscious patterns.
- Reframing beliefs, memories, or emotional responses.
- Introducing therapeutic suggestions aligned with the person’s goals.
- Strengthening emotional safety and internal resources.
- Creating new subconscious associations through repetition and imagery.
From a neuroscience perspective, hypnotherapy may influence attention networks, emotional processing, autonomic nervous system regulation, expectancy effects, and learned neural pathways. Repeated emotional experiences create conditioned responses within the brain and body. Hypnotherapy attempts to work directly with those conditioned patterns at a deeper level than conscious reasoning alone.
At its core, hypnotherapy is about helping a person access the parts of themselves operating automatically beneath awareness, so change no longer relies solely on willpower, but also involves transformation at the level of subconscious patterning, emotional memory, and nervous system response.

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, EMDR, is a specialist trauma therapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences that may still feel emotionally “stuck”. EMDR can be particularly helpful for PTSD and trauma-related difficulties, but may also support people struggling with other anxiety conditions, distressing memories, shame, grief, and the impact of adverse life experiences.
